Are you trying to add a new lock type? Do you also have an exchange work account loaded on to your handset?

Ok this may be a Administrator situation.

Can you go to Security and then access Device administrators and let me know what you have listed?

Strange, one of the device admins is not allowing the change to take place, it is possible that it could be the Android Device management or the My Xperia. You could try unticking both to see if the issue remains.

I turned all of them off and then restarted the phone it Still gray

What lock types do you have available within the device, is it only Pattern, Pin and Password and no swipe?

I assume that you are only wanting to use Swipe on the device, can you advise what Android version you are running and if the lock selection screen states anything about the administrator?

Do you have any Anti-virus applications on the handset by chance, as this only occurs if the device is subjected to administrator policies based on the app.

You havent by chance added encryption on the device have you? As this would cause this problem and there would be no way to get around it other then a reset to the device.

Have you used a VPN on the handset, if you do or still have a record of it on the device you will not be able to use swipe until you remove it completely.
