XZ2 not starting, black screen, led working, clock working, battery drain

Hi All,

sorry, long title, tried to sum the issues with this phone.

so, major issue now is this: phone is NOT starting again (or i can not see it).

long story short: i had some battery drain issues, i tried to reduce and restrict apps, clean up all useless stuff and so on, but it didn't help much. i decided to change the battery, got one from ebay from a local shop. i opened the phone and switched the battery. results? now the phone ain't starting anymore. i can not tell if the phone is actually OFF or if the screen is toast.

i can tell you that the upper LED is showing colors (red, orange, green and some lightblue. this lightblue came up after some attempts to restart it by following some google procedures...did not help though).

i can tell you that at some point some kind of alarm went on (like the one you put in the morning to wake, not my usual alarm though, so the audio stuff is working...but i think the alarm works if the phone is OFF too).

i can also tell the the vibes work because, again, when i try to start it following google procedures in can file the vibes (does vibrating happen if the phone is OFF?)...this does not help too.

i really like this phone and i would hate to scrap it, but i can not afford 150-200 euros the shop asked to "fix it".

is this a common problem? anyone else with this issue? how do i solve it? how can i tell if i broke the LCD or if something else is messed up? any diagnosis ?

some help would be super nice.

last minute update,

the alram just rang again, i notieced the cellphone is actually ON and i can barely see the time and date.

the brightness is so low i can not see the keybord, so i can not unlock it by code, but i can unlock it by finger print.

any advice??

again LCD toast or what? brighness sensor?

i dunno, any help would be much appreciated!

It does seem that you have a hardware issue (screen issue), since you are able to get alarm notifications, and LED notifications, you could repair it with XC but I does seem to be hardware related, if so, you have 2 options 1) DIY or 2) contact Sony, although if you or someone other than Sony repaired the phone (replaced the battery) its highly unlikely that they'll repair it.

Hi all,

i brought the cell to a reapir shop, we found out there is probably a missing component on the mother board. (attaching pic). where do i find a schematic of the mother board itself? i need to know what's missing!

We as support agents do not have any schematics for our devices as all repairs are done by trained technicians. You can have a look at the link that @uliwooly posted and that should hopefully help.

The picture(s) needs to be approved by a moderator before you can see them in your post.

I don't know the name of the part on the motherboard, but hopefully you will get help from another user, but you can always check the XDA forum and see if they can assist you.

Hi guys, back on this once again.

now phone is working , clock works, battery is ok and so on. i'm still having issues with the back light.

tried out different options:
- installed 2 different screens , no results
-installed another mother board,still no results...another one might be useful though.

looking on the web i found this pic, what is a CMS fuse? and especially, where can i buy one??https://www.cjoint.com/doc/20_03/JCgk7XQ6gmf_xz2.jpg
CMS FUSE??

might be the last part to solve the puzzle, please help.
