NEX 5 battery charge via a travel adapter

I've just purchased an NEX-5 at a british airport and flown on business to France. On reading the instructions I see it says do not charge the battery pack through a travel adapter....it may cause a malfunction.

What malfunction, and what is my option?

I think you have misread the instructions.

You should not use a travel CONVERTER - this is a transformer which would convert the French 110Volts to UK 240Volts.

It is OK to use a travel ADAPTER which does not change the voltage, as your charger will work properly with any input between 110Volts and 240Volts..
