Is there any information available how in detail the HDR feature works in Auto mode with the HX99? Whilst setting fixed EV values for the HDR range is usually quite consistent and predictable, the Auto-HDR feature appears to be quite inconsistent, and sometimes has barely any effect at all when you would expect it to make a big difference, and sometimes even making corrections in the wrong directions (e.g. brightening up the shadows but the highlights as well). How does AUTO-HDR evaluate a scene and makes its settings? Are there any publications that describes the algorithm for this?

Hi @Thomas_11

In my experience, auto-HDR will work well in some lighting situations, but it is unable to deliver optimum results in all of them. The algorithm is no doubt extremely complex, but really only designed to work in a limited number of situations.
