Hello,

I've been bought a DSC-WX350 as a present & I'm not technical & find the user guide that comes with camera hard to follow. Currently, I'm trying to connect the camera to my phone & have downloaded the imaging edge App.

When I try to connect my phone to my camera, I see 2 choices

Scan QR Code - I've scanned every one I can see in the user guide & I get a This QR Code is not supported message

The 2nd choice says connect using the camera SSID/password - where do I find these details.

Sorry if these are stupid questions, but would be grateful if anyone could advise.

Hello @colinsmith50,

if you connect the camera to your computer without any memory card inserted and then switch it on, you should be able to locate a file called "wifi.txt" in the "PMHome" directory.

It will hold the SSID (the name you can find the hotspot your camera generates by) and the password (which you have to enter to establish a connection).

Simply print it out or note it on a piece of paper, disconnect your camera from your computer, switch it on and then connect your phone to the cameras hotspot.

Hi Nic,

I've taken the memory card (presume you mean the SD Card) out of the camera, plugged the camera into my laptop but I can't see a PMHOME directory.

Is there anything else I can do.

When I leave the card in the camera I can see a PMHOME directory & the below sub folders

None of these folders say anything about an SSID name.

I have achieved partial success.

Blundering around in the camera menu, I found the SSID & PW which I then added to my phone's network. I'm now getting a message a my phone that the SSID is not range. This stuff is driving me crazy & I'm rapidly regretting getting a Sony.

I've no idea. How I do find out? I've just searched WiFi hot spot on the user manual page & retrieved no results.

I just don't find the instructions any use. All I wanted was a point & click camera & the information provided just isn't user friendly.

Thanks again for your reply.

I have looked at the instructions in link, particularly the connecting to a phone details & I still can't get the phone & camera to link up.

The instructions are OK as far as they go. One thing I want to do is take pics of pets/animals while they are running/jumping & I can't see any details about this topic.

Years ago I had a Casio Exlim which I thought was great camera, so far this Sony just doesn't to be as good.

I add the SSID into my phone & I get a message on my phone saying

"This network has no internet access

Stay conencted?

No or Yes

I hit yes & a message appears on my camera saying "sharing" this message just hangs & nothing happens

I have no idea what steps to take to sort this problem out.

i have other questions about blurred photographs, especially things like pics of my dogs running - see examples.

yes, if your dogs are blurred, you expose for too long (on more professional cameras you can manually adjust the exposure time to fractions of one second e.g. 1/200th of a second).

I would set the mode dial to SCN (Scene) and go with the setting Anti Motion Blur.

I can advise you to play a bit with all kind of settings.

It will help you learn quickly.

Not just SCN and blur as suggested.

Try S and rotate the ring around the lens and rotate the ring on the back of the camera.

You'll see Shutter speed change and simultanuous change of brightnes on the screen

<A> changes Aperture (lens opening) both on the ring around the lens and on the back (not on WX350)

<M> shows you how Aperture and Shutter speed change (not on WX350)

<P> stands for Pleasant. The ring around the lens is for Aperture and Shutter speed, you'll see what's happening

<M> for Manual is my favorite, the ring around the lens for Aperture and the ring on the back for Shutter speed (not on WX350)

Try some settings and learn to enjoy doing so.

It's the entrance to get great pictures.

The suggestion @IamNic did is a very good one.

Problem is that you'll have to think in advance.

Night photography, Beach, Backlight, Landscape -> SCN and choose.

You'll have to practice to select SCN and a dedicated option a lot to make it a habit.

It will shurely produce better pictures.

Try the setting with green (Intelligent Auto) and yellow (Superior Auto) camera icon as well.

The yellow one gives beautiful pictures in exchange for longer waiting time to be able to shoot the next picture.

A tip for the lazy snapshooters.

Let's say you see a landscape with dark foreground and light sky and your love ones situated somewhere on the separation of dark and light.

Set setting on <A> for automatic.

Take 3 pictures (space on SD is without limits these days)

1 - pointed at the subject (your love ones) or in front of the horizon.

2 - point the camera a bit down from the subject, half press the shutter button, leave the button half pressed, then point at the subject and press to take the picture.

3 - point the camera a little bit higher from the subject, half press the shutter button, leave the button half pressed, point at the subject and press to take the picture.

You'll end up with 3 pictures, one normal, one a bit lighter with clear foreground and one a bit darker with a perfect sky and a darker foreground.

Play with it.

There's just one type of smartphone that can do this trick as well.

It's all Xperia smartphones.

These smartphones give perfect pictures thanks to the half way press method with the dedicated camera key.

They offer manual Aperture and Shutter speed settings as well just as any other smartphone brand.

These manual settings are hard to find and use on smartphones.

In manual settings normal cameras excel.

I tried your suggestion yesterday & I'm sorry to say the results if anything were worse - the pics were blurred & out of focus. I want to take pics of the dogs while they are running & jumping etc, am I just expecting too much from this camera. I have a knackered Motorola phone which frankly takes better pics.

I can use a camera & I have a Canon SLR that takes beautiful pics & I thought this Sony compact would take good photos without having the problems of carrying around a rather bulky SLR.

I'm not being critical of you, you have been very helpful, I am just really disappointed with this camera & that's ignoring the problems connecting with my mobile phone.

The ring doesn't rotate on my WX-350.

I am definitely as "lazy photographer", its why I chose this camera, I have a Canon SLR for non "lazy" photography.

All I want to do is take pics of my dogs while they are jumping running etc & this camera has lots of clever options I'm not interested in, but doesn't tell me how to take simple action shots.

Set setting on <A> for automatic - How do I do this I can't see an "A" to select?

I'm sorry to hear this.

To be honest; the gift you have received is not what you'd need.

This camera with it's f3.5 lens isn't good in taking pictures under these circumstances.

You can try to change ISO from auto to a higer value like explained over here,

but if you read further the higher the ISO value, the more noise will appear on the images.

To avoid further annoyances I would seriously consider to return the camera (it's a 2014 model) to the shop and buy a decent one like a DSC-RX100 mark 1 with a f1.8 lens and a 1 inch sensor.

The RX100 is an old model as well, however you'll have a quality camera at a very fair price.

I agree with Strampke, the RX100 will make a great lazy camera.
