On the Support website for your Handycam, you can download Sony's "Memory Card File Rescue" software. This is designed to recover accidentally erased data: -

In order to get back all the stored data which have become unreachable due to corruption in memory card, memory card recovery software is used.

You can easily recover deleted video from handycam by making use of best media recovery software. By using this software I was able to retrieve deleted video files from flash memory card on canon vixia camcorder. So, you can download demo version of this software and evaluate video recovery results.

Just to clarify, the software suggested by Blencogo is also the one that I would also recommend. There may be other products available online but I would always start with the product offered by Sony.

I downloaded the program but it can't scan any of the deleted files. I have the same camera with the OP.

Hi there

I have removed the link to Android data recovery software that you posted as it wont help with a handycam, its only for android devices e.g. phones and tablets.

Also the English used on the site is not good, alot of spelling mistakes which usually means its untrustworthy - which I suggest you knew already

I have deleted video that was stored on the hard drive of my Sony Hanycam...is recovery possible. Most of what I have seen refers to recovery from a memory card, not the HDD.

Connect Handycam to your computer and scan it with the help of data recovery program. For example: Hetman Partition Recovery, R-Studio, Recuva, Esseus, etc.

Hello, eckerp! As we all know that, Hanycam HDR-XR 160e has a built-in 160 GB HDD (Internal Storage), while supporting external memory cards. Were the deleted video files stored in the internal storage or in the external memory card?
1) If they were saved on an external memory card, you can try the SoftHow Photo Recovery, which had help me retrieved many photos and videos from my SD card.
2) If the video files are stored in the internal memory (built-in 160 GB HDD), I am afraid that the data recovery tools can not recognize it. That is, the lost video files may not be recoverable.

Videos taken by Hnadycam are stored at the memory card, you can try a memory card data recovery to get back these videos. This Recoverit can give you a help.

Don't panic! This often depends on what have you done to this camera after the deletion.
The deleted files often are not completely destroyed as we normally think after the deletion process. They are still there and become invisible. So, you should always act carefully to get back your deleted videos.

1). Pick out the inner memory card of this digital camera and never save anything new on it in case of data loss.
2). Insert it to your computer via a card Reader and select a proper memory card data recovery program to restore all your deleted videos back. Different data recovery programs would work differently on your camcorder. So, you may first try some deleted file data recovery freeware at first, such as iBoysoft Data Recovery, etc. Here is a helpful tutorial to recover deleted files.
3). Save and back up these restored files on different places or locations in case of data recovery failure.

Next time, you should never be so careless about your important files and never forget to back them all up.
