Laptop Hangs on welcome Screen

My new Sony Vaio laptop (just 3 weeks old) hangs on 'welcome screen.' I mean it really 'hangs' and does not want to come off it.

Solutions?

Which Vaio model do you have?

Has this just started? Have you installed any updates recently?

What anti-virus software do you have installed?

Hi There.

I have Vaio SVE1511A1EB.

No, I have installed no recent updates. It first hung on 'welcome' five days ago, bur only for 3 minutes. Today it hung continually. Only disconnecting the batteries solved the problem.

I have Avast antivirus. Did a scan much earlier today - no problems found.

I would say that it hangs (always on welcome) about once in every 30 switch-ons. But today was major. I had to deprive the computer of all power sources to solve it. Then it behaved perfectly - as it is now.
