Don't know why but I downloaded upgrade win 8.1 and this upgrade overwrote MBR and now F10 key is no longer available, so is there any way to go back and recover to factory point? (I didn't make backup cd's).

Hi Alex.

Have you tried pressing the ASSIST button when the Vaio is completely turned off?

Follow the instructions for a Full Recovery - do NOT use the 'Refresh' option.

Yes, assist button taking me to windows and nothing happens, I tried settings -> change PC settings and then recovery but I got the message: "could not find the recovery environment" and in sony care I don't have even recovery option. I know that I can order cd's form sony for a "small" fee but if its possible I would like to avoid this.

Hi Alex,

It sounds like the Hard Drive was formatted.

I bet you wish you had made Recovery Discs - the only answer I can think of is to contact Vaio Support.

no, all partitions on hdd are untouched only mbr (or whatever its called now with gpt partitions) was overwrote I think, I can see all partitions like they ware since new.
