I have model number VGN-NR32S/S - Sony Viao.

The graphics card is faulty - I assume it's replaceable as it's a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M - how do I find this out for certain and how do I work out what newer cards will be compatible?

Hi phil1982moor,

welcome to the Sony User Community Forum..:smileyhappy:

You haven't mentioned what problem you are having with your vaio's graphics but a couple things you can check to confirm if's your graphics chip or screen that's the problem..

Try connecting your Vaio to an external monitor, do you still have the same problem.?

Do you get the same problem when in safe mode.?

Usually to enter safe mode restart your Vaio and when you see the Vaio logo press the F8 key repeatedly..

Do you get the same problem in the BIOS.?

To enter the BIOS restart your Vaio and when you see the Vaio logo press the F2 key repeatedly..

To exit the BIOS press F9 to reset the BIOS to default and press F10 to save and exit..

Unfortunately the graphics chip is soldered to the mother board & is therefore not replaceable, you would need to contact vaio support to arrange a repair..
