LAPTOP NOT WORKING - IS HARD DRIVE DATA SAFE?

Hi, I posted a message a little earlier asking if anyone could help with my Sony Viao VGN-FZ21M laptop not working. (Op System Vista). Just green light on. Sadly no-one was unable to respond and that is ok. (Unless someone out there can still respond or requires further info to assist them?).

All I am asking now, based on my earlier post, is it still possible that the data on the hard drive is still in tact although the laptop almost appears dead?

Would really appreciate a response. Many thanks.
