vaio vgn-ar71e ryu 240 keys not working

i have had a sony vaio laptop VGN-AR71E for around two years however recently six keys have stopped working they are the RYU and 2, 4, 0.

i have already tried rebooting the laptop to factory settings but they still do not work

Hi dcoker and welcome.

When it is just a few keys - often in close proximity - the most likely cause is a hardware fault either in the keyboard itself or the wiring/connectors to the motherboard.

Try connecting an external USB keyboard and also check the onscreen keyboard and see if they work OK. If they do, someone will have to take a look inside to check the connections.

Worst case will be a replacement keyboard as there are no serviceable parts in the unit itself.

I have tha same problem. Just today the SAME letters and number stop working RYU and 2, 4, 0.

How random is this; the same letters! I don't have warranty to clame anymore...

Hi, exactly the same problem with ryu and 240 keys not working! This cannot be a random coincidence there's obviously an issue somewhere, hope Sony check and get this fixed it's really annoying. I have vaio svs1311n9es

Exact same problem on VGN-SR19VN

Has anybody replaced the keyboard and resolved the problem?

Hi all,

Had exactly the same problem with my Son VAIO but found that it's also the Caps Lock key that's an issue.

When that starts working OK again so do the other keys, (ie when the light turns on and off).

So my advice, clean that key and / or give it a firm press and when the caps lock light starts to go on and off the other keys 240ruy will also start working!

For a bit !!!!

So its a Sony Caps Lock key issue.
