Near 2 year old VPCEA1Z1E/B

Hi, I bought a Sony VAIO VPCEA1Z1E/B laptop from an 3rd party seller (www.laptopsdirect.co.uk) near 2 years ago and I'm now starting to want to discuss some issues or be helped in some way.

The first would be the fan noise. Sometimes the fan likes to suddenly go mental and make a very loud noise from time to time. I don't mind it when it's gaming or playing video and that's understandable. But sometimes it just does it randomly when there very little going on in the applications of processing. Gets a little embarrassing when I'm in class and it just goes mental in a quiet environment with other students and the teacher looking my way (:/). What can be done to solve this? Has the inside of the laptop accumulated so much dust it struggles to do heavy performance or sometime nothing at all? I can't remember how low it's been going on for though. Or is there another explanation to which can be dealt with?

The second issue would be me wanting to wipe the hard drive to a fresh install of Windows. But I don't have a disc with all the original sony software like Gate, Assist, Control Center, etc, etc that comes pre-installed and I can't find any source of the programs online. Could somebody help me there?

Right now I'm on a desktop listening to the laptop doing a virus scan and the fan going mental, then I guess it may reach its target temperature, settles down for about 4 seconds then goes mental again. Does this every 3-4 minutes and the scans been going for 2 hours 45 minutes.

Sony Vaio has an option where you can restore it to factory state. Search the word "recover" via Windows search bar.

With regards to your fan, I suggest for you to clean it.

How would i clean it? is the fan difficult to get to/locate at all?

Hi Sid,

Your fan/cooling vents may need cleaning but there is a BIOS update available for your model that claims to Improve fan control. Have you installed this?

Unless you are confident about opening your Vaio I suggest that you contact a competent repairer to carry out the work.

Although you can recover your notebook to factory settings using the HDD recovery center I suggest that you also create recovery disks (for use should you experience a hard drive failure).

Using either the HDD recovery Center or the Recovery Disks will return your notebook to ‘As Delivered’ with the original OS, all pre-installed drivers, utilities and software. Be aware that the process will wipe all personal data, so back up before proceeding. After a full recovery it will be necessary to download and install all Vaio and Windows updates since date of purchase.

Due to licensing restrictions most of the pre-installed software is not available for download – generally only updates are available.

From your manual:

“You can create recovery discs using the VAIO Recovery Center. The discs are used to restore your computer system to its factory default settings. To create the discs, click Start, All Programs, VAIO Recovery Center, and Create Recovery Discs.”
