ADVICE! VAIO CANNOT RECORD SOUNDS FROM THE SOUNDCARD

I've investigated about this problem.

I don't know the reason, but Sony asked all soundcard producers to turn-off the "Stero-mix" device from his notebooks (with Vista).

So you cannot use this feature to record sounds directly from your soundcard (like Karaoke, WebRadio, Skype phone calls etc. etc.)

A way round it would be to get a 3.5mm jack (male) at both ends and put one in the headphone socket and the other in the line-in.

What a brillant solution on a 999 euros Notebook. 😄

Anyway I cannot do as you suggested because my notebook has only the Mic in and the Line out and I need to:

1) sing in my mic (mixing with the music playing on the notebook and recording).
2) use my headphones to hear what I'm singing.

DRM raises its ugly head yet again. I thought we were going to see less of these copy protection features, not more!

There are fixes for some soundcards in Vista - but unfortunately not Sigmatel.

See this is why I made that suggestion, and if people can find nothing better to do than be rude then I might as well say nada.

Hi everybody.

I've tried also to edit and modify some .inf files of the Realtek drivers but the problem still remains.

The best solution for me is to install XP on a new Hard disk partition in order to use it (with dual booting) when I need to record sounds using stereo-mix device.

Installing the (XP-) audio drivers from the FE31 series, version 5.10.5067.0, seems to work with vista on my VGN-FE41 notebook. And Surprise: Stereomix is there.

Vaio is portrayed as a media savy laptop - in truth its not. Legitimately, we all want to make and record "our own" home videos, movies, music and animations etc using various apps of our choosing.

Its CRAZY that this is purposefully turned off, and reduces the capability of a VAIO to that of a brick! DO NOT BUY A VAIO, they are rubbish given you cannot record sound from the stereo mixer. This is not the fault of RealTek but Sony, purposefully by design. VAIO is simply NOT a media ready laptop. The situation is infuriating! This was the first and last Sony product I will be ever buying. I will be actively campaiging across the web to ensure this is repeated everywhere. VAIO is RUBBISH for MEDIA PRODUCTION!

I need a refund for this lump of junk.

Please be aware - for media prodcution, Sony Vaio laptops are rubbish -
VAIO CANNOT RECORD SOUNDS FROM THE SOUNDCARD

There is a Stereo-Mixer feature on all laptops which is usedd to record sound output from your speakers. Sometimes necessary when you might want to record music you have recorded yourself from videos you have taken, or Powerpoint Presentation voice-over you are capturing and converting to video.

Sony VAIO have purposefully disabled this feature permanently on all their Vista and Win7 laptops. I guess so to avoid people from copying sound etc from videos or other sources when playing them on your computer. Though legitimately there are many cases when you will be recording your own home-made sound output from your own videos, presentations, karaoke apps, or Skype style conversation recording apps, etc..

So it is not worth buying a Sony VAIO laptop.
