PCG-Z1XMP blue screens when wireless is enabled

Hi,

I have a vaio pcg-z1xmp which blue screens when I enable wireless. I have re-installed xp and the original driver and the update from the support site but nothing seems to fix the problem. This all started when I installed XP service pack 3. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Messay,

Check in Device Manager -> Network Adapters and see if there are any errors or warnings next to your wireless adapter. Does it say it is working correctly?

Can you read what it says on the Blue Screen?

Device manager says the device is working properly. I've also tried getting it to update the driver but it can't find any. Unfortunately as soon as I get the blue screen the laptop reboots so I can't see what the error message is.

You can turn off the automatic reboot so you can read the blue screen - you will have to shut down by holding the Power Button for 5 seconds, restarting and turn on automatic reboot afterwards.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
Go to Advanced
Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

Your Z1 uses the Intel PRO Wireless 2200 wireless card so I would try the Intel Driver Update Utility to find the correct driver here: -

Alternatively, search for the latest drivers for the PRO_Wireless 2200 network connection for your version of Windows here: -

Of course, it is equally likely that the wireless card has a hardware fault and needs relacement.

Another way forward is to install a WiFi PC Card in your card slot and disable the Intel card.

Thanks, I actually found the link myself and installed the lates driver from the second link. It's working now and I'm connected to the wireless network!
