Thank you for the info, I will check my set tonight, but I'm still a bit mad about having to pay for the media player. It should be given free of charge to the owners of incompatible TVs. As it is Sony aren't looking after us as they stated, we are paying them for the privelage!

Sony 4k TV and HDMI 2 - upgrade path?

I am looking for some concrete commitment from Sony with regards to the possible upgrade from HDMI 1.4 to HDMI 2.0 (when it is finalised) for the very expensive KD-65X9005A TV. I have read that Sony will "look after" these early adopters but wish to see more of a concrete commitment as opposed to a hollow promise.

Clarification would be nice. I note that in the US, these TVs are having updated boards with newer HDCP compliance for use with Sony's 4k media player.

Anybody have any news on this for UK adopters?

All well and good but nothing official in my eyes. With Sony being one of the group who are agreeing on the standard of the new HDMI, it is quite shocking that they are not forthcoming with concrete, official announcements for owners of their 4k TVs. This and the massive price drop over the last few days paints quite a damning picture.

Hi I'm considering purchasing the X9 65" TV but although there seems to have lots of promises in the early days that it would be HDMI 2 upgradable I can't find any evidence that this has occured. Does anyone know anything on this topic since its nearly March 2014 now - That is almost 6 months so would expect something to have been announced by now.

Jon

Hi bonzo68

Have a look at this link to see whether your TV is compatible with the FMP-X5:

https://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/4k-hardware-upgrade

Also, another thread to read is:
http://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/x9005a-hdmi-4-upgrade-for-hdcp-2-2-fmp-x5-media-player/m-p/1668695

And:

http://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/sony-x9005a-owners-amp-netflix-4k-hevc-codec/m-p/1591963

Hopefully these answer some of your questions.

Cheers
