Bravia KDL-32EX403 firmware update

Hi!

I am trying to update the firmware on my Bravia as ive only just realised its never been updated in the 8 years ive owned it......

Ive downloaded the update onto a USB stick, turned the TV on and plugged it in...but nothing is happening?! does the tv need to be connected to the internet for it to work? Im updating it because i kept having an error code come up when trying to refresh the internet content?! code was 2200 or 2123. So i figured it is probably because the firmware is out of date but now i cant get it to update?!

any help would be much appreciated.
