WiFi refresh rate/strength

I have noticed since July update that seems like the WiFi doesn't refresh nearly as often as it should. I have the same problem at home on my Asus RT-AC3200 and at work, not sure what they have. My home network is I have tried both tri band and 5GHz/2.5GHz only.

I usually have to go into WiFi settings and turn it on and off then select the network I want. At home seems to be the most sensitive to dropping out vs at work even though shows I have good to excellent strength.

Turn WiFi on automatically based on location is off.

Open network notification is off.

Auto network switch is on. I have tried off with no difference.

Auto connect is on for networks I connect to.

I have forgotten networks and re added them with no difference.

Mobile data always active is on.

Tethering hardware acceleration is on.

I came from a Moto z3 and the wife has a Moto z2 and neither of those devices had this issue.

Disable Wifi.

Settings - Apps  - Show all apps - top right,3dots - Show System.

Scroll down to Wi-fi, and stop it, and delete the cache.

Rename the 5Ghz, and 2.4Ghz ssid nicknames something different from each other.

Change each of their passwords, if you can have seperate passwords.

Restart phone, pick the 5Ghz network, enter the password, and it should auto connect all the time.

I will give that a try. Just strange a 4 year old phone has no issue but my new phone struggles. Seems like something in software needs tweaked.

I also need to figure out how often it scans for networks. Because I can be at work and when I open the WiFi settings page to select a network it still shows the ones from around my house. I live 10minutes away from work I would like it would recheck more often then that. Also goes the other way around when I am at home it still shows the network at work.

Leave it open and you will see how often it refreshes.

But shouldn't it refresh automatically with out me looking at it? I did switch my network from Tri band to individual bands. Seems to be running smoother but I have noticed that the 5Ghz signal strength is weaker for this device compared to past devices which is probably a lot of my issue.

Learn to ignore the bars..they mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I do not look at the bars I watch the dBm from what the router.

so whats the dbm that you are getting..

I've checked mine, and it scans every 10 seconds or os, whereas pre-update it was constant, so it was lowered last update.

You might need to change the channel for 5Ghz, I know I had to, for my 4k Fire Stick.

Ill get back with you on the connection strength.

But for how the network is setup I have one of my 5G bands set up on auto and the other on channel 48. Doesn't seem to matter though. And it is nice to see that I am not crazy when thye did change the refresh rate of checking the network.
