a290 troubles with photoflash

Hello!
I used camera a290 for last two years. Not long ago i attempted buy the photoflash (sigma FL EF 610 for sony) but camera not identified the photoflah and try to use the built-in photoflash.
What may be reason of this problem?

I have taken a look at the compatibiity chart for this flash .....

..... and it seems that the a290 isn't listed as a compatible camera model. Essentially, the a290 and a230 are similar models of camera but at the same time the internal software within the camera may be preventing the flash from firing as it doesn't recognise it. Have you tried using the flash with another camera (perhaps there is one you could test it with in a local photography store) to check to see if the flashgun is fully functioning?
