photos reverting to unedited when uploaded from a6000 to mac

I've been taking photos using black and white on the sony a6000, but when i upload to the mac using photos it reverts to unedited. What's the point in using the tools on the camera if it doesn't stick?

You are probablby using RAW which is not affected by the camera settings - set the camera to RAW plus JPEG
