2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Captain_WD, Thanks

Your suggestions are all good to get HDD recognised, but it turned out to be that on our model there are 3 USBs and the one marked "for HDD recording" is USB No.3, which was separated from the more obvious 1 and 2, and was hiding under an angled extender for the Hdmi4 socket.

After nearly 12 hours of formatting for exFAT, once the WD 1TB hard drive was plugged into USB3, it was recognised and registered without delay!

Pressing the Rec button starts HDD recording, and then watch the other channel works, and the other recording menus and controls are very good....so far worth the wait after all, many thanks Sony

Good choice of new TV! I wanted to go for that one, but it's way too expensive and being a student I couldn't afford to lay down that much money!

I instead decided to go for this:

I'll get an OLED for my next TV, when I have a job and can afford it. I got a price match against Richer Sounds, Currys do the 850V model which is the same but it hasn't got colour prime, or HDR.

I can't believe that you can't pause and rewind live, my 4 year old Sony can do this! It's not as well implemented as Sky, but it can still do it. Bit of a joke from Sony.

Hey   @fedidan, @oodles2do, I reckon you can get close to pause and rewind by pressing record, when you can access the recording (which is quick and easy using the 'title list' button), play back from the start of the current recording, and use Pause FF and REW as usual...any good?

BTW once you connect a hard disk to the LG 55UF860V you can pause/rewind
live TV, but you have to enable the feature first by the clock icon in the
bottom right of the screen when using the Magic Remote. I hope that you have
as much fun with your LG TV as I¹m with mine.

Thanks for the tip! Ours is coming tomorrow evening, so we need to pack up the Sony tomorrow as they'll collect that at the same time

Got the latest update, I just have a query about PAP. when you enter Twin View, and press the Action Menu, there is a Left input option, where you can select which I/P is displayed on the left. The Right Input option brings up the same selction menu but you cannot change the Input, the keys do nothing.

What is the point?

Product is is Sony 2015 KDL 43W805C Android TV, UK Model with YouView, purchased Sept 2015.

Same for me, I posted earlier about this. Not sure whether it's my set up or a limitation on which combinations of sources can be PIP/PAP'ed. If it has to be a tuner and X other source I will be hacked off. I was looking to have Sky on one and the PS4 on the other, or Sky and cast from my phone.

Quinnicus is usually really helpful with this kind of info, but I've not seen them online today.

Anyone else know?

Although I love my LG860v TV - the reason I went for it , was because  reocrding was implemented out of the box and it didn't used Android, the grass isn't always greener

several of us have major issues recording HD freeview (such as BBC1 MOTD) on the LG. As soon as the players hit the pitch I get stuttering and pixellisation every minute. Tried 2 different hard drives and 2 different sources - same issue. LG claims it's a signal issue, but it's fine on LIVE TV and my signals are perfect

so if you want HD recording, don't rely on an LG

Yeah I'd heard about some issues with recording HD signals on another forum, recording isn't the biggest selling point for me. I just want a TV that actually works as it's supposed to.
