Product Model: Sony Bravia 9 II
Console: PS5 at 60Hz (VRR and ALLM turned OFF)
The Motion Blur Reduction feature in Game Mode is completely broken for 60Hz games. It causes a bad double-image effect when moving the camera.
Last year's model, bravia 9, worked perfectly. This new model ruins the picture on Low, Medium, and High settings, making it impossible to use for standard console games.
Why testing missed this bug:
By default, the PS5 turns on VRR. When VRR is active, the TV grays out and hides the Motion Blur setting. Testers likely forgot to turn off VRR to check if the feature actually works when turned on manually.
Proof it is a software bug:
If you run the exact same 60Hz PS5 game in Movie Mode and turn on Clearness and all other motion settings off, the motion is perfect with no double images. The bug only happens in Game Mode.
How to see the bug:
1. Connect a PS5 and turn VRR OFF.
2. Open the Game Bar and turn Motion Blur Reduction ON to any settings.
3. Move the game camera. Or just in game.
Please pass this to the firmware engineering team. They need to fix the screen flash timing in Game Mode so it stops doubling the image.
I suspect this is due to the increased voltage running in game mode. The bravia 9 2 has a faster input lag of 12ms compared to the bravia 9 18ms. An update is needed to either adjust the timing of the bfi specificly in new game mode. Or fallback to the old bravia 9 setting. 5ms of input lag is well worth clear motion with BFI, even if it's just an additional toggle like FPS and standard mode ect. Please can this get passed on ASAP as it specificall making motion in ps5 console extremely games poor and any motion blur setting is completely unusable.
