Terrible picture on Netflix

Having a bad time with my new TV.  Recently purchased KD48A9.   The first TV was exchanged because of a fault but the picture itself was fantastic.  The new set is so much darker.  I tried watching a film in Netflix calibrated mode and it was impossible to watch as it was so dark.  I could not even see the white printing on the screen on the left-hand side.   Has anyone else had this problem with Netflix calibrated mode?  I am so disappointed.

Thank you so much for getting back.  Yes, I have switched it off.  Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem.

Thank you for taking the trouble to get back.  You are right, everything is so dark.  Really disappointed with my purchase.

Hi

Does the picture seem brighter when you turn off Netflix Calibrated mode? Could you show us how dark it is with a picture (preferably with average lighting in the room as opposed to complete darkness)?

Hi, Thank you for your interest.  Yes, the picture is much better when I switch off Netflix calibrated mode.  After reading up on all the features of the TV, I expected a great picture when the mode was switched on.  It is going dark here now, so I will have a go at taking a picture in the next day or two.  Thank you again for your help.

In recent years it seems that films are often created in low light, for example a room is lite with a couple of lamps, so everyone is walking about in a dark home, nothing like in reality where they would be able to see each other clearly, so it is difficult to view what the hell is going on, usually I just have to guess. This is not just a problem with Netflix, but with all channels. Hence the reason I have to overdrive the set just to get a proper picture. I was an early adopter of OLED and the application by Sony is a disgrace for an expensive smart tv.

You are right.  Things are okay with studio lighting or outside scenes but some films are poor, particularly indoor scenes and this is also the same when I watch through my Sky box.  I couldn’t believe it when I tried Netflix Calibrated mode when “trying” to watch a film on Netflix.  The calibrated mode is now permanently switched off.  I am going to try to adjust my picture settings on Custom as I understand I can try out settings and will not mess up other settings.  Is this right.  Thank you again for helping me.
