My x90j tv stopped playing usb content. If I have folders on the map it shows the folders. If I try to enter the folder it says “even geduld (a moment please)” and waits infinitly. If I use a stick without folders, it shows a blue rotating wheel infinitly. This is the first time I use this after two month. Nothing changed in the config, nothing changed in the content of the sticks. This week I got the latest update , which makes me suspicious. Any clue?
Before the update your TV would have been running Android 10.
In May 2025 Sony released an update that would update the TV to run Android 12..
When I updated my TV (XR-42A90K) I noticed I could no longer use my USB stick with programmes and movies on.
When inserting a new USB stick in the TV the Android system deposits some files on the USB, it seems to me that these hidden system files are not compatible with the Android 12 OS.
What I did was attach my USBs to my computer and reformat the USBs (I use ex-FAT) to get rid of the Android 10 files, copy my programmes and movies over to the newly formatted USB and connect it to the TV. Wait a few moments and you should be able to view your items once again.
I have the same problem since the two last system updates on my X95L. I tried with several HDD both in exFAT and NTFS, but nothing. Everytime I turn on my TV I get the screen with a USB device detected, and the TV put some Android folders in my HDD.
I always used VLC Player, because is much faster, but now this player and others I intalled cannot find files in my HDD. It only shows folders as empty.
I am very angry because I purchased a premium and expensive TV, but I cannot emjoy something that simple as watching movies through the USB port.
Did you find any solution?
Allow USB access in settings
• After Android 12, access permission is required for some models.
• Go to:
Settings → Devices and inputs → USB media
or
Settings → Applications → Special permissions → USB device access
• There, try to allow Media Player or VLC if you use it.
