Only getting MP4

Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

I have just bought an HDR-CX405 and I have done a test recording in XAVCs. Whenever I import it, I always get an MP4 file extension. How do I stop it happening? 

This is my first camcorder so I'm a bit of a numpty at the moment.

XAVC-S is a .mp4 codec.

That is the reason it will always show up as .mp4 on your computer.

It does not have a different file extension.
