My new tv worked fine for 2 days but now goes straight to stand-by - and flickers 5 times in a row.  What does this mean and what, if anything, can i do to fix it?

Best start by calling the call centre so they can troubleshoot, but should be relatively easy to get it resolved whatever their diagnosis.
