Sony KDL**HX923

Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

wstevew,

hi, well my dealer told me theres no need to touch it basically so  thats why i thought i would say it, if you turn the tv off using the remote you will have standby light on, turn it off at the switch on the side (top button) it turns it off altogether.

bign55,

hi there,

if your down to a replacement you will get exactly what you had before, a new tv!!, as for the glasses who is swapping it out? if its your dealer you leave him your details to forward to Sony and they will send them to you or if its Sony direct check with them.

astonishingly they are not very forthcomming with instructions but as a general rule everything that came out the box goes back in, if you hold anything back you may end up getting charged for it!, i had to do that with the LG 55" set i had in order to get the refund, if your worried check the contents of the new one to be sure or contact Sony and ask what you have to pack up first.

Has anyone had any direct correspondence from Lee (StartTheBus) over the last couple of days?  I sent him an email with a some queries at the weekend but I haven't heard from him yet.  I know he's probably busy so I don't want to keep bothering him.

Palhil,

dunno where Lee is, i chatted with him with regards to the issue on friday last and we should have had a response from him on Monday, however the chat may have raised an issue that requires further investigation and thats probably why he has not responded thus far, im sure when he has something positive, he will.

Morning

What have I missed?

As Bravia55HX923 suggested, I was planning on posting some news on Monday as we started to get some of the return sets back late last week.  In the end, and in an effort to better understand the more recent posts, I took one home over the weekend and made time to sit through a couple of movies and watch what cricket I could find that wasn’t affected by the weather.

Based on that experience and the feedback I have received from all over Sony over the last couple of weeks, I believe that there is always going to be some level (albeit very minor) of edge artefact (clearly not my words) on these units.   No doubt a conclusion many of you had already got to. That said, I had to really look for it and it certainly didn’t interfere/display under any sort of regular viewing conditions.

This was my first extended sit down with this new gen of Bravia (in a non workshop environment) and taking my Sony hat off for a second (I don’t really have a Sony hat) and speaking purely as a movie and sports fan I was very impressed and although my old V3000 is probably not the best comparison, it’s as good a picture quality as I have seen from a Sony television.  For me it lives up to the reviews I have read, although, as always, I would be interested to hear what you think.

Any specific questions please feel free to PM me.  It’s probably going to a lot easier for my to answer each of you questions this way, especially as many of them are fairly specific your individual experience.

Regards

Lee

Thanks Lee,

what did you conclude regards to my private message on my thoughts to the Adhesive issue?, and where exactly do you "draw the line" on this crease, i am however still not convinced that this should be there at all!!, as i said you dont get this with the borderless LG  tv which came out end of last year.

i think part of the problem in this social media world we live in is that people share their experiences with products openly for all to see.

what that means here is that there will now be a natural scepticism that without telling us Sony might (and probably will) use feedback here to actually fix the issue...use a different adhesive, whatever....and silently sets may start arriving later in the year that are edge artefact free.

this isn't a dig at Sony at all....i've seen car manufacturers do the same thing and the response is always that ongoing product development is part of what we do.....basically people moan about something and then mid-lifecycle the manufacturer changes it to make it better but doesn't class the initial issue worth of recall or replacement.

it's one of the downsides of being an early adopter. always a risk your the guinea pigs.

please don't think i'm not in this boat as well as my 55HX923 is due to arrive TODAY!!!

how would i feel in 2-4 months time if i saw TV's in store without any trace of the crease.....not happy to be fair.

what would be great is if sony are looking at different materials to use but it will take time to filter through to production then contact the current owners directly and offer to replace their sets as and when any new sets arrive that have gone through any modified manufacturing process. Equally if in the production lifetime of this model nothing can or will be changed that is also good information to know as if we are happy with the TV's albeit with the niggling fault we know is there we can choose to either keep it knowing its just the way it is or if we really cannot live with it given the expense of these things then we also have the choice now to just get out money back.
