I have had my sky+ hd box and my ps3 connected via a hdmi switcher to my tv for over a year with no problems. Now when selecting sky i get an hdcp error and no picture is displayed when i select the ps3 nothing at all, the tv says 1080i in the top corner but that is it

I have tryed connecting each item directly to the hdmi port of the tv and still the same result

Any answers would be greatly appreciated

Some kind of security handshaking issue. Have you tried a different cable?

Thanks

Maybe the TV has a fault? I would give your local service centre a buzz and get them to take a look at it possibly?

Hi All,

I have exactley the same problem.

Two days ago I received the HDCP error when my sky + box communicates with my Sony  kdl v32a12u tv. My ps3 also now fails to display correctly on my tv. I have never had this problem and I believe it may be due to a software upgrade on the sky + box and has caused the HDMI socket on my tv to lock up

I rang sky and there was not much progress, although they did force a new software downlaod to my box, but to no avail.

A couple of debug steps I tried

1) Connected my sky + box to a HP monitor with a HDMI connection --> works

2) Connected my ps3 to a HP monitor with a HDMI connection --> works

3) Connected mysky + box to the TV with a SCART connection --> works

hence after the above steps something must be wrong with my tv, ie it doesnt accept the HDCP protection

I have read a lot of threads on the internet and most of the issues are with Sony Bravia models. I dont know if my tv which I bought in 2005 works with HDCP but I would be very disppaointed if it didnt

Would I need a firmware upgrade, does the single HDMI port on my tv looks like it has been damaged based on the information above

I am a bit frustrated to be honest..

any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Hello.  I am having the same problems and started a similar thread last week.  HDCP compliance is a feature of HDMI so if you have an HDMI socket, it WILL be HDCP compliant.  I work in a Sony Centre and have the luxury of being able to test the box on many different TVs using a different cable each time.  The box has not worked for nearly 2 weeks now and has been tested on many different sets so I am confident that the problem is with the Sky box, not the TV.  Not very helpful I'm afraid but possibly worth knowing.  I am waiting to hear back from a Sky engineer so will update if I hear anything.

Thanks for the information

I sent Sony Techinical help the same question and they also replied that a tv with a HDMI connector is HDCP compliant, so I have no worry there

In my case I am not sure if the sky + box is the problm here since as I mentioned in my original note it will talk to my HP monitor through a HDMI cable.

Also my ps3 doesnt display on my sony bravia tv anymore which suggests the HDMI port on my tv is damaged?

When I contacted sony they suggested I have my tv looked at by an authorised dealer, seeing as you work for them and based on my notes above, is it your opnion that my tv is now the problem?

as these tv's only come with one HDMI socket I am a bit stuck..

any news from your sky engineer?

many thanks

Hello.  Still nothing back from Sky.  I have tried the box on numerous TV's and it doesn't work on any so in my case I can only assume it is the Sky box.  Not sure why your PS3 has stopped working though.  Having looked on threads in other forums this is not only happening on Sony TV's and has been going on for about 5 years.  I think Sky need to sort out a proper fix for this.

thanks for the fast response

can I ask what you can suggest for my case?

if I was to call a sony authorised person out to check the tv, do they have to replace the HDMI circuit board or do they just attach some equipment to re-sync it...

thanks
