I can't believe my bad luck this week this is the 2nd sony device to break following my hdd recorder failure....really hoping someone can help.
I attempted to switch the computer on and the power light switches on but the screen remains completely black and the fan makes a really loud noise. I've switched the computer off and then rebooted pressing the F2 button repeatedly but nothing happens. The sony rep I spoke to said that it is likely to be a hardware problem. What type of hardware problem could it be....has anyone come across this problem before? Additionally I noticed that none of the lights on the computer keyboard light up either is this an indication of anything?
Really frustrated as the computer is only 4 years old and I probably use it twice a week.
Based on what I've said has anyone got any ideas/suggestions and potential costs as I don't want to find myself hit with a bill so large that it would probably have been best to buy a new computer.
Incidentally I'm seeing that the all in one models are quite unreliable. Anyone got any suggestions for a cheap upgrade but similar spec?
Thanks
Gemma
Just been quoted £450 for the mobo and £500 if the screen by an authorised sony repair centre. This seems excessive but maybe not?
I asked whether they would be able to recover files which I've not backed up but they say they don't provide this service. I'm not a teccie & I really need some help but nobody seems to want to.
The hd recorder part is also discontinued so I've got to purchase a brand new one also.
Both products are less than 4 years old....really dissatisfied and disappointed with sony as I thought they were a reliable company. Think I'll be using a new manufacturer in future.
Hi gemma1181
This could be a vareity of issues, from BIOS to any type of harware failure.
Has the computer had a knock recently? Can you try to unplug and replug all the cables, USB, screen etc?
binbash
Yeah I did knock it over whilst cleaning but I've checked all the wires and they are all connected properly.
Anybody got any suggestions how I can recover the files on my hard drive or someone who might be able to do it, I live in lancashire.
Thanks
Gemma
Hi Gemma,
If you knocked it over while cleaning you may just have knocked some component loose e.g. the microprocessor, the memory etc.
Do you know anyone who is familiar with computers, they might be able to have a look? i.e. open the case and check that everything is seated correctly.
I would just hate for you to be ripped off by someone who tells you to replace the motherboard.
