Hi,
The fan on my Sony VAIO PCG-2C1M seems to have packed up. Are these available as a spare part from Sony?
Thanks,
Nick
Hi Nick.
The model you quote is invalid - you are probably quoting the chassis model on the bottom. Try to find the correct model - you will find it on the screen surround or in Vaio Control Centre -> System Information.
Your best bet is probably Google but you will need the correct model first. If this is unsuccessful, you could try Vaio Support to see if they have one available.
Is your Vaio overheating and freezing? If not, the fan may not be on because cooling is not required.
Model should have read: PCG-3C1M.
Definately a fan problem, overheats then dies suddenly and without warning. No overheating alarm but looking in the BIOS these don't seem to have any temperature sensors fitted anywhere.
Also can take memory cover off stand machine on end, blow an external fan on to it and all runs fine for hours. Turn fan off and dies within minutes.
Yep tried them, they apparently don't sell _any_ spares. Al they have done is given me a link to a page for their repair centers which unfortunately doesn't work so I can't even find a repair center to get a quote for replacing the fan.
Hi NickC_UK,
As pointed out by Blencogo you are quoting the chassis model and you may find that the product model is a VGN-CS series. Have a look on the screen surround.
A Google will provide results. Here is one...

As per my previous post model should have read: PCG-3C1M.
So what would it cost for a Sony repairer to supply and fit a new fan to this laptop?
An independent repairer will probably charge in the region of £100 plus VAT to supply and install a new fan. I hate to think what one of Sony repair partners will charge - probably more than the unit is worth...
