Hi all now i have my pc cleand out and a fresh install ok my hard drive isint huge 40 gb
but hey it has been enough for me in the past the thing is i could do with the partition being changed just now it is plit into c drive 18.6 gb and d drive 18.5 gb
my d drive with windows ect onit i would think dosent realy need all that am i right ?????
if so how can i assign more to my c drive withought lossing all my new set up and things is this possible to just reasign more to c drive from d i know it is all one drive but can i change how much is assigned for each part ???
Oh this can be messy. I feel it would be best to leave be, once you have all your programs + Windows 18.5GB is ample.
You probably do not need 18GB for Windows and your program files so in theory it's a good idea to change the partition sizes. However, you will need specialist software to do it and it is fraught with danger.
I understand that you can set the partition sizes if you do a complete reinstallation, i.e. C & D drives. Perhaps that may be an option.
i kinda thought that but i have been told you can get programs to make this possible withought lossing info on the drive
i know i can do it when doing a clean install but only found out after already doing it
tellingd
you bet me to the reply
i was hopping i wouldint have to do a clean install to do it thou
i have just done it a week ago and have just got there with all my programs and camera drivers ect and still not got it back to norm yet lol
No problem
There is a piece of software called "PartitionMagic". It's a bit expensive (£70+) and I don't think you'll need it very often so probably not worth it.
Another option of course would be an external HDD - pick one up for the price of PartionMagic?
yup a bit to much at £70 i would rather the clean install i might just get another hard drive and add that on
i am not that much up on pc's yet but i am getting there
its just that every program you go to install always points to c programs ect so my c drive always gets packed full i suppose i should learn to direct some to the d; drive
Generally, people leave all programs on the C: drive and keep their data (photos, music etc) on the 😧 drive.
It's the data that can get out of hand. If you have a digital camera and an over-enthusiastic wife it's very easy to find yourself with gigabytes of pictures in next to no time!:smileytongue:
thats what i was needing the room for all the pics of cats kids infact everything that moves gets a pic taken of it lol
and i get left with a pc full of pics i normaly stick them on a cd but takes ages to find them again to print them of or just to have a rake thrue
i think another hard driveis on the crimbo list this year
blame the wife and pics lol
Aye, I always blame the wife
