Sony VAIO SVE1713W1E HD Webcam with Exmor

I have just bought a new Sony VAIO SVE1713W1E, running Windows 8. According to the specs, this features an HD webcam with Exmor for PC.

The camera does not function and I cannot find ANY support anywhere so that I can download drivers or other software.

Note that there is NO camera showing up in Imaging Devices or anywhere else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Lioann1 and welcome.

The webcam uses Windows drivers included in the Operating System so there are no drivers to download.

I don't think there is any webcam capture software but the webcam is designed to work automatically when you configure it within your IM software or within Skype.

I don't think the camera shows in Device Manager unless it is switched on by a program that uses video. Try downloading Skype and set up the camera in Tools -> Options -> Video Settings. Choose USB Camera from the drop-down box.

You may choose to buy a webcam program like Arcsoft Webcam Companion to capture video and pictures.

If this does not work then there is a possible fault and I would contact Vaio Support for advice. Go here: -

Click on 'Vaio and Computing and then enter your Vaio's Serial Number to obtain contact details.

Come back here if you have problems.

Many thanks for such a quick response, Blencogo.

I had already tried the Skype test but it won't recognise any Camera connected. I have also tried ManyCam, again finds no camera connected. Finally, tried www.testwebcam.com, again to no avail.

It looks like I have a faulty webcam so I will need to take this up with Sony support.

Many thanks anyway.

Hi Lioann1.

I have the same laptop as you, and the exact same problem as you. The webcam has always been there and been working correctly, until a few days ago. The camera doesn't show in the device manager or in "devices and printers", and thus doesn't work with third party software either.

Have you found a solution??

Thanks!!

Hi Fabian

My local SONY asked me to return the laptop within 10 days of purchase and they replaced it with a new one two days later. New laptop camera works perfectly well.

If yours is over the 10 day period, I think Sony will fix the camera easily as long as the laptop is within the guarantee period.

Good luck!
