Sticker says Radeon Graphics, but System says Intel

Hi,

since I have been having some issues playing some video files, recently, I have checked up my graphics card properties.

I then noticed that the graphics card is:

Intel HD Graphics Family.

I looked at the laptop and I can see a sticker pointing out that it should be a Radeon graphics card.

I went in my email and saw the order I made to Sony and saw that the graphics card should be a AMD Radeon HD 6470M.

It doesn't look like the same thing.

if I try to download a driver from the Radeon website it tells me that it is incompatible with the system.

What is wrong? Am I correct in making the assumption that I am not using the Radeon graphics card but the embedded intel one?

How can I use the Radeon one?

Hi aribenig,

The VPCSB3C5E has both Intel and Radeon graphics adaptors but if the switch is set to Stamina only the Intel adaptor appears in Device Manager but when set to Speed both adaptors are listed.

Try setting the switch to Speed and let us know whether that solves the problem.

Hi aribenig,

Which Vaio model do you have and what is showing in Device Manager under Display adaptors? Some models have both Intel and AMD Radeon graphics chips on board.

Rich

Edit: If you have a Stamina/Speed switch above the keyboard try sliding this to the Speed position.

Hi,

My Vaio model is VPCSB3C5E.

Under Device Manager I see just the Intel HD graphics adapter, even though in theory I'd think that there should be listed also the AMD radeon one.

I have the switch but I can't check now what it does - if I'd switch it to Speed would I then see the graphics adapter listed in Device Manager?

Thanks, I can now see both cards.

The fan though is very noisy and I am wondering how can I make sure that I am always using the Radeon card? Or is the pc deciding which is the best choice?

Hi aribenig,

When the switch is in the Speed position the two adaptors work in tandem. When in the Stamina position the Radeon adaptor is disabled.
