Camera lens made of?

Hello everyone,

I bought Xperia X a few days ago and have question about it which Google can't answer...

What material is Xperia X main camera lens made of? Is it glass? Or scratch resistant glass like sapphire? Or maybe (but I hope not) plastic just like the one in Z5?

Should I invest on a lens cover? And will it impact to image quality?

Thank you!

Scratches can happen on a Glass lens cover... sometimes you can scratch it with certain dirt, sand or minerals that you may not be aware of...

I am positive that the X series has a glass cover, but it is not diamond Winking_Face

It is plastic. My Z5 Compact lens totally skrached.i had all other brands phone before, it is first time to see a lens like that. Please do not ask me to put a protection things. Why Sony didn't make it right at beginning

When I owned the Z2 the most ultimate thing I was worried about was protecting the camera and of course considered protection but still managed to damage the lens. I now own an Xperia X and have done for just over a year and managed to accidentally scratch the lens (not sure how) but it's a deep but not long scratch right on the lens.

I'd definitely push forward to Sony that they should include some sort of lens protection already applied to the camera lens on all of their new devices, especially for the flagships considering how much they cost.

Within 3 days of using the Xperia X without a back cover, the rear camera lens is already left with three scratch marks! I tried wiping them off having the impression that the marks are temporary, but they are permanent scratches. How disappointing Sony...duh!!!! Slightly_frowning_Face Metallic back, but plastic camera lens! A kind of shame on Sony when many OEM use durable camera lens!
