Charging from laptop USB3 port taking 11 hours!

This isn't the first time I've raised this, but wondered if there was a known reason for this? If I take a call on my phone whilst plugged in to my laptop it actually drops in battery percentage and dies.

I had this replaced once as the battery was abysmal, this is better but the charging is tragic.

In comparison, I have a Galazy S7 which charges from this USB 3.0 port in 1hr and 4 minutes from flat, and as you'll be aware has a much bigger screen. So it seems that my Xperia just needs more power to sit there being 'idle'.

Any thoughts appreciated?

Curretly sat with stamina mode on and WiFi off, in 50 minutes I have got upto 4% battery which is about the speed I'd expect my Nokia 3310 to charge in 1998 on a USB 1 port.

Also, this isn't something I rely on daily. But I think we've all been in a situation where you don't have a charger plug and you need a bit of juice. So this is for twice a year 'emergencies' and would be nice to know it was possible.

I know it isn't though, but it does make me want to move away from Sony's at the end of this contract as technically the phone seems a bit shoddy in a few areas.

@Dooo charging a mobile device from a laptop is never recommended, the amount of power delivered by such ports is not optimal to charge a device but to keep the device up and running.

I do agree with you, ...but... my blackberry Q10 and a Samsung Galaxy S7 charge really well. SO it seems odd to have created a phone that when plugged into a laptop USB port still loses charge (albeit slower). The tech is out there, and I can't state strongly enough, if anyone likes the idea of charging a phone from a laptop, go for the Samsungs as they do a full charge from USB in around 60 minutes 🙂
