Contact pictures don't show when calling (incoming/outgoing)

After the Nougat 7.0 update contact pictures stopped appearing during calls. And not only the picture but also the name of the contact. Only the phone number of the contact appears. Nothing else.

This applies to incoming and outgoing calls.

The contact pictures as well as other information in the contact themselves seem to have no problem. It's like the OS doesn't have access to the phone book.

Points of interest:

• My phonebook resides in an exchange server (outlook.com)
• This phone book is the only one in my contact application (I have chosen all other accounts to be not visible).
• The phone number that appears during a call has the internation prefix. I have stored all contacts with their international prefix (e.g. each contact in my phone book is saved as +306912345678 )

does this happen to just 1 contact or to all contacts stored in your device?

how about in the call log? does it detect the saved contact?

can you check in the contacts app that the default account for new accounts is your preffered account.?

how about when you save the number that called you instead , to replace that is saved.

does this happen when with other contacts that aren't saved in the exchange account?

how about when you are on safe mode

The problem affects all contacts.
The call log is NOT affected. After the call, the contact name and picture appear normally in the call log.

This account is the only contacts account I use. All other accounts have been selected NOT to appear in the contact list. Therefore it is also the default account to save contacts.

Trying safe mode right now...

It worked. Booting in safe mode and then back to normal mode seems to have fixed the problem.

@thewhiteowl: if it did, I reckon it is because of an app inerferng with the contacts apps. please try to observe your device if the behaviour occurs again , check app permisions to see which apps are granted to access the contacts

Ok I've only reinstalled WhatsApp after the nougat actualizaton.

Now it works ok
