Hello all,
I bought my X Performance less than 1 year ago following previously great experiences with Sony.
Not long after I bought the phone, I noticed that it was significantly slower than my previous Z2 and generally just not working so well. Eventually, it started cutting connections which meant that during calls, although the call was still active, it would go silent and only return to normal after re-awakening the phone. This all got a little too much, along with the other problems I was experiencing, so following many emails to Sony support I decided to take the phone to the Service/Repair centre. After 24 hours, I went to pick up the phone- they told me that they had completed updates/software repairs as we can all do via Sony Companion. I didn't have high hopes, but proceeded to use the phone. The connection problem was still very much apparent and it seemed more and more issues were creeping in.
I struggled to find the time to take it back to the Service Centre, but eventually the problems became too much. The screen would go black/white at random points (even when not in use), it was constantly overheating, apps would close down if there was anything incoming via another app, some apps just wouldn't work. So, I took the phone back on Saturday to be collected yesterday (Monday). Upon collection, the lady first informed me that they had changed to screen and the casing due to some scratches. When I asked what had been done regarding the problems I'd been having, she stated that they had once again completed the software repair. The lady then turned on the phone and passed it to me to check, with only 8% battery it meant that this check was unfortunately rather brief.
Once I returned home, I continued to play around and restore apps, etc to the phone. It continued to overheat, and informed me that certain features had been disabled. At this point, I realised that the front facing camera was not working. I wasn't too concerned as I thought it could be a safety function due to the overheating- only to realise later that it is not working at all, yet the main camera is.
Today, I will again make the 75 minute journey to the Service Centre where I will have to leave the phone and be without a device for another 24 hours.
I'm not convinced these problems will be rectified on this handset that is still under warranty. Does anyone have any advice as to what to do next?
Thank you in advance.
I feel your pain. I have sent my phone in for repairs five times now, in the past 10 months. I have had 3 boardswap, screen has been changed, microphone as well. And still I'm having problems with it. Now it is due to overheating. Camera disables functions due its heat. Typing is out of the question, I can't move icons over the screen while the phone is charging/hot, it tries to open the app everytime I hold the app to slide it to a different spot on my phone. I wish I was able to return my phone, change it with a different model, the X Performance is a very big let down for me.
I think almost every part of my phone has now been replaced, yet the problems still remain.
After taking the device back for the third time, I was naturally feeling quite irritated. I asked the assistant what would be the next step if it still isn't fixed this time, to which her reply was "please just let us try", at this point I was infuriated as this is the exact answer I'd received when I was there a few days previous.
Anyway, 2 days later I got the phone back. The front camera is now working, however overheats all the time. The general functions are slow which makes typing extremely difficult!
Syphblade, have you got anywhere with the possibility of a replacement/different model? My device is also under warranty.
Nope, not yet. I wrote a complaint on the Sony Mobile facebook page and they told me they will look for a solution. I guess I have to wait what solution they come up with.

Yes. I told them a boards was didn't help. Maybe they should replace the screen. They did and now my problem seems fixed.
I have had it for the last 10 months and a week ago I managed to trick someone into buying it for a quarter of its original price.
I moved to Xperia XZ Premium and there is no comparison between them, XZ comes from another league.
The x Performance started to get sluggish regardless of the countless factory resets, it peeled very easily on the sides despite keeping it safe and sound, and the aluminium back cover was very prone to getting visible wear marks, dimples and scratches all over. On top of all, the same aluminium battery cover decided by itself it needed a spacious gap around left down corner, despite never being dropped or abused.
I sold the junk and went after the XZ Premium which until now has provent to be a space ship compared to the dated x Performance.
I cannot buy another brand, I have been a Sony addict for the last 20 years or so.
That's what irks me, you're forced to be by the XY Premium, because there X Performance was not getting enough support, and all these updates I sense are causing problems for the phone. Either it's done on purpose for phones, and it's extremely terrible for users who don't want to buy phone every year. I'm convinced this method is being done to target consumers.
