Finger print reader works when it wants to!!

Lately I've been having issue with finger print scanning on my phone, sometimes it works others it doesn't. I've gotten to the point now where I don't even use it for certain apps anymore as it becomes such a hassle.
Not sure if it's software or hardware related but I do know one thing it's becoming Increasingly annoying!!!!!

Hi @Dermy777,

I'm sorry to hear about that and sorry for the late reply. Slightly_frowning_Face

It is only for applications that you are experiencing these troubles with the fingerprint reader, or does it happen when unlocking your phone as well?

I would recommend that restart your phone in safe mode, this will disable all third party applications in your phone so we can check if any of them are the cause of this, your third party application will be loaded again once you restart the phone.

If there is no change while the phone is rebooted in safe mode, try removing the fingerprint(s) you have added to your phone and add them again. Also make sure that your finger and the power key is doesn't have any dirt or moist on them.

You can use a clean, dry cloth to wipe off any dirt or moisture from your finger and the power key before registering your fingerprint.

Let me know if that helps! Slightly_smiling_Face

I have this issue too, when unlock my X Compact! Sometimes it works quite weel, others never match my fingerprint, in any position recorded, and I must use the PIN to unlock.

I tried every possible solution, safe mode, software repair, cleaning the cache, record again the fingerprint, but nothing change. I always clean and dry my fingerprint before unlock, but not help.

Very disappointed, forsure it is a problem of software! Angry_Face

It is indeed a matter of software as if it was hardware you won't get not even the failure message. What happen is that the security stack is not able to communicate with the hardware hence is not able to return a true/false status or it just return false by default.

If this keep happening to you it may be a small memory leak issue that crash the security stack. Usually s factory reset or software repair may fix it but you should be careful when reinstalling your apps as one of them may be related to the issue.
