Is it right, that there are no groups anymore? Under Android 6 the contact app supports groups for local contact.

Hi @cerb66, I merged your topic with this one.

As you may have noticed, the Groups tab in Contacts app has been removed in Android Nougat 7.0. Please see my earlier post here for more information.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

Hi Sony I have tried sending my group messages via textra as suggested but if you add anymore than 1 person it changes it from a sms message to a multi media message and incurs extra costs.
Plus half my people have not recieved the mms I sent as it has to be downloaded by the recipient .... this group text function was the main reason for me purchasing the Xperia in the first place as it's how my business runs and if I am unable to use a group messaging service I will have to change my phone to another maker whose phone does. Please bring back a group messaging service. Thanks

I'm missing my groups in contacts :-(. I tried to use your advice, but I cannot found "Create new group". I can just tap "More fields" but there is no group field to create a new group. (Xperia X perf., Nougat, Phonebook Version from Sept. 2016 - newest I could find)

Any idea?

Sony Support keep say that groups was removed in Android 7.  Why was it removed? What is the reason?

There has to be a good reason to remove a good feature that lots of people need. This is not acceptable. The last time the contacts had no groups was in Android 1.6. Every android version since then has had groups.

Groups help to keep contacts organized by type. If you have several hundred or thousand contacts, displaying them all in one list is a mess.Organizing them into groups keeps all contacts easier to find.

Gmail still uses groups to organize contacts. Most people sync their contacts with Gmail.

The contacts app on Sony phones should display the contacts the same way as in gmail, that is by organizing by groups.

The claim that the group was deleted on Android 7 is a lie of Sony support.

I recently updated Nexus 9 to Android 7.0, but I have confirmed that there are group tags in my contacts.

Deleting a group seems to be selfish judgment by a childish Sony engineer, ignoring the user's intention.

Sorry trying to get to grip with new Sony Xperia X but can you gather ten contacts and put them in a group for texting all the same message?

Thus was easy on last phone. Need individual replies though.

You can create a Group but not Delete it??!!! What kind of drivel is that? I have some Groups in my contacts over 2 years old - I want to get rid of them! And display by group - I mean why is that gone??!!! Ludicrous - we're not all teenagers with a random unstructured list of bl***dy contacts some of us are professionals and like to be organised. Please bring this back....

as a workaround, you can try Google Contacts app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.contacts), as far as I can tell it allows you to create and manage groups (called Labels).
