I was using Xperia Z5 previously, I have no problem with transferring my files to and fro my USB thumbdrive. This is the features I liked best despite other models can do the same.
I changed to Xperia X Compact, it is supported by new USB Type C cables. I just bought a Type C USB thumbdrive from Sony specifically for this occasion. However, recently I couldn't transfer any file. It is my phone and why the heck can't I transfer anything from my phone to my thumbdrive, or read anything from my thumbdrive like I did previously? This is wasting my time when I most needed it. The worst of all features. What kind of security feature is this and how does it help at all? It is just severing my efficiencies. I chose android phones because i can read and make documents with the ability to transfer to my phone or tablet or comp which I used on separate occasion. If I knew I couldn't transfer, I wouldn't have buy another Sony phone.
It wasn't indicated as well when I bought the phone or the USB Type C thumbdrive!
HI @RachelLee,
Welcome to the community.
Is the flash drive formatted in NTFS or exFAT? Android devices can only read FAT formats.
You can also try using an USB-C OTG and use any USB flash drive.
I just checked it. It is FAT32 format by default. I only have this thumbdrive which I bought just because current phone changed to USB Type C. My other thumbdrive has a micro-B connection, which I used for my tablet and the previous phone.
