Filmic pro Xperia 1

Hi everyone,

So I've been in touch with filmic pro team (who I must say have been superb!)as the cinematographer kit will only work up to 1080p. They'll also be looking into the possibility of getting a 21.9 aspect ratio for this phone. It would be awesome if we can get 4k vlog2.

Apparently this is a Sony camera framework limitation so we'll need to contact Sony to release an firmware update to address this.

I've also contacted monndog labs to get an update on compatibility with their anamorphic lens. I believe beasgrip pro might be the way so will have to try.

Why would you want an anamorphic lens when the Xperia 1 already shoots in 21.9 aspect ratio? Is it because Filmic Pro doesn't support it? I was in contact with Filmic Pro about the same issue a while back and they said they'd take a run at supporting the Xperia 1 if it proves a viable pursuit. Hopefully they will pursue it but I won't hold my breath. It might not be worth their time seeing as there's only the X1 and X10 with the 21.9 ratio. If it was Apple who brought out a 21.9 phone however, I have no doubt they'd jump on it straight away!

Hi,

Yes they told me the same. Currently they have a few Xperia 1 handsets and testing it for debugging but it was because filmic pro doesn't support that aspect ratio and also with the anamorphics you get the lens flare which you can't get on the Xperia lens. I agree apple would have been viable but i think they are trying so fingers crossed

I bought this app hoping it would not cause the camera to overheat and shut down as is the case of my phone. I recorded 10 minutes of video at 60fps 1080p with no overheating issues. So it looks like a Sony software issue. Am I wrong? Because before my Xperia 1 was overheating at 60fps around the 3 minute mark or sooner.

Definitely a Sony issue I think. Mine overheats  to the touch while charging.

I hope Sony can fix this soon as I really like the filmic app and everything works fine, just need to be able to record vlog2 in 4k.

I might be missing something but how is it a Sony's issue if it's a third party app?

In my case that 3rd party app did what the Sony software could not do; record video at 1080p 60fps without overheating. Before using this app it would shut down from overheating in about 3 minutes.

Defo sounds like a software issue then.

Mine doesnt overheat on charging or taking video in any resolution or even on the sony programmes.

I find it odd that some people's phones seem to be overheating so easily. I feel pretty confident in saying this is NOT a Sony issue. I have shot a ton of footage over the time I've had my Xperia 1 and only had the phone overheat on one occasion and that was because I was shooting (in 2k) in 40 degree heat under direct sunlight.

I think it's either a fault with your phone or you've got a CPU intensive app or process running in the background. Overheating at 1080p 60fps is definitely not normal.

The cinematographer kit only hits 1080p on many if not all android devices.

Impossible that its Sony's issue.

Also, not too sure 4k vlog2 offers any much over the cinema pro 10bit recording, at least last time I used it it certainly didnt

Edited as 4k does now work on some android devices.

Still, I'm still sticking with my thoughts on vlog2, it's not that great as a flat profile imo.
