Transfer to SD card function gone?

Why? This function was a life saver, I used it all the time to transfer my photos to the SD card, why did you remove it Sony?

Of course you can move things to the SD card, for instance one way is your app tray, Files - select the phone, browse the folder, and select the items(long press), then select the SD card, and where you want to move them to, and select move...couldn't be simpler.

The function that was present in xz premium was easier to use than longpressing a few hundred photos a time.. and I'm not even sure how the files app handles files with the same file name, the removed function solved this automatically

Er.....move...select...ah..select all...

and it adds a (1) at the end of the duplicate, and IIRC, it may ask if you want it moved or not.

And besides, instead of moving photos to the SD card in future, why not just save them there, with the storage setting in camera/Album.

You still had to mark the files for moving, IIRC.

Bcs the camera app is slower with SD card selected, still not think it's good to remove good functions.

If you are finding it slower, then you need to check for a system/operator update for your phone, that was actually an issue that was fixed a couple of weeks ago.

And also, if you have the update, and you still think it's slow, then get a faster SD card.

There are apps out there for you to check the speed of the cards, and to be honest, some of the "premium" branded ones are garbage, and are nowhere near their advertised speeds.

I was wondering the same, this function was one of the best functions available in an Xperia handset. Why would they remove it?

I have tried "Files" that comes pre-installed with my Xperia 1, and I do not recommend it if you are looking for similar function to your issue. You still need to search every folder in order to find out if it was saved internally or externally, I'll give you an example of that, in camera app, if you set the default storage to SD card, photos captured will be saved to SD card, which is great until you enable "Burst with camera Key", then your burst photos will be stored to the internal storage. Similar wise "Predictive_Capture", "Portrait", "Background_Defocus", "AR_Effect" and "Cinema_Pro" all save their files to the internal storage and you can't change that. So you have to search manually for all folders that might save their files to the internal storage.

Instead of trying to convince you that you need to start buying a faster SD I will recommend using "File Commander" which will have similar function to the Xperia.

- Once the app is opened.

- Click on the clean internal storage button (next to Internal Storage)

- Then you can see all files categorized and Analyzed (Largest Files, Camera Media, Downloads... etc.)

- Select the type desired and click move to external storage (You will have to select the destination folder though).

With this you can ensure that all photos on the internal storage are moved to the external storage.

I find this better than searching for folders that unknowingly stored in the internal storage.

Finally, I wish that the support team at Sonymobile reconsider this decision because it was one of the best features on an Xperia.
