Sony Xperia 5 II - Proximity Sensor
When I move my hand close to my phone the proximity sensor pickes up this movement like its supposed to. However, sometime it gives a bright glitchy flash for an unknown reason. It's not like a big deal since the phone itself continues to work properly no matter what. However it is a bit curious. Anyone else with this problem.

Where do you see the flash? from the screen? proximity sensor area? the actual camera flash?

Then screen itself flashes. A bright white flash for like a few milliseconds.

Run the sensor test in the Support app, to check if it fails or passes.

It passes the test. I forgot to mention it only flashes when the phone is in standby.

You can give safe mode a try, it disables all 3rd party apps, which lets you know if you have anything malicious.

I don't if we're talking about the same thing, but I can see a small flash in bottom part of the screen if smart AOD is on:
- You make sure that Always-On Display is on, the phone is locked and screen shows time in AOD mode.
- You quickly move your hand over the sensor
- Screen blinks and when it's turning on, for a moment time lits up brighter than needed and the bottom of the screen which should not be lit at all flashes with low brightness. This can be seen only in low light, for example when you are in bed with lights off.
It doesn't happen all the time though, I think it happens when the screen turns off and immediately "asked" to turn on so the fade-in animation can't keep up, but I don't know why this part of screen even lights up

I think we experienced the same problem, although my flash was more intense. However, since I ran the safe mode as mentioned before I saw the intensity of the flash change ever since. It is now exactly as you describe. (but not over). I tried to replicate the flash many times and i think it's an problem with an overload of triggers and the animation.
Since the flash changed due to the safe mode (for now) is it wise to do software repair with the companion app? Used to do that to an older Xperia model

if it's normal or better after safemode then it was an app acting up, restart the phone, if you don't experience the same issue, there's no need to repair the phone with Xperia Companion

I don't think it's anything malicious on software. I already did two factory resets and the problem remains. I've been searching like crazy for a software to calibrate the proximity sensor since I received the phone. I can't use my phone for phone calls on ear, because of this problem. I've been forced to answer on speaker. If I use on ear the screen is constantly turning on and off and I activate things with my face touching on the screen. It's really a horrible phone for traditional phone calls. 😞
Check this video, the example is on a Xperia 1 II, but it's exactly the same on Xperia 5 II.
