My a77 EVF shows a handy EV scale in all exposure modes, ranging from -5 to +5. Except in M mode! In M mode, the scale is mostly greyed out leaving just the -2 to +2 range.
Is there any particular reason for this?
When setting up an exposure bracket shot, in P, A or S modes, I can see all the 'chips' lined up along EV scale, indicating where each shot in the set will fall. In M mode, as half the scale is greyed out, the 'chips' at each end of the bracket are more than likely be outside the -2 to +2 range and therefore don't show up. It's a bit annoying!

I have noticed that too. I can imagine the values outside the -2 /+2 range are grayed out as kind of a guideline to stay within that range, because otherwise image will be completely under- or overexposed.
I think for a pro-sumer level camera like A77 this is not neccessary and probably a future FW update will include a change for this limitation of the EV-scale in M-mode.
