DSC-HX9V Gig/Concert Settings

Hi,

Can anyone suggest settings for my Sony DSC-HX9V for gig/concert photography, at many concerts DSLR are not allowed so I would like to get my compact set up for this. Any help would be most welcome.

Hi Julie, welcome to the Sony Forums

The most important thing would be to set a higher ISO setting. This will allow faster shutter speeds to stop motion blur. ISO800 should be enough; higher (1600 or more) would be ok if results look blurred, but you will get more detailed shots with a lower ISO: http://esupport.sony.com/docs/dvimag/DSCHX9V_guide/eng/contents/06/02/10/10.html

As you'll be using the stage lighting, you should switch the Flash off: http://esupport.sony.com/docs/dvimag/DSCHX9V_guide/eng/contents/03/05/03/03.html

Although you can manually adjust the exposure I'd set the camera to Program Auto. A lot of the time auto settings work remarkably well in concert lighting. Set the top dial to

and use the lowest aperture value, to let you use a higher shutter speed. You can adjust the ISO from the menu too

I've seen some really good concert shots taken with the HX9V which often seem to rival DSLR resuts – hope they work out that way for you!

Thank you Mick ... I have just changed the ISO settings to 800 and maybe up it I need too ....will play around tomorrow evening before concert starts but at least I have something to go on ... thanks again for your help.
