NEX 5 not working after firmware update:

Just updated firmware last night and tried to use camera today, won't focus, buttons on back not responding, no "labels" showing for the soft keys, can't enter menu, can't use movie button, tried a soft reset with no response. Tried removing battery etc, but again nothing different. HELP!

If you're seeing the installed version as 'V.05' it would suggest you do indeed have that version correctly installed. There have been very few reported issues with this update and I've seen none at all with these symptoms.

There are a number of possibilities here. The most likely, given that you do have v.05 installed and the camera appeared to be ok immediately after the update, is either an unrelated malfunction or an incompatibility with another component. Are you using an LA-EA adaptor? There is an available firmware update for them too, check your version here: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/NEX-5/downloads/FW_LAEA1_V02_WIN

Otherwise, I'd suggest your best course of action would be returning the camera to Sony. Firmware issues can be really tough to resolve, compounded by this not being a clear-cut firmware-related problem. You can register a repair or discuss your options further with Sony Customer Services by following the instructions on this thread:

Hi garbage60, welcome to the Sony Forums :slight_smile:

Which firmware version are you updating to? Have you tried re-updating? Most firmware update issues can be fixed this way. Reboot your PC, connect the camera, power it on and run the updater software again.

Hi Mick

Wish it was that simple, updated to firmware 5.0, all seemed OK, but next day this started. Tried soft reset, removed batteries, etc, no result. Tried to reinstall firmware which would seem sensible, but it gets to the point where it's checking what version you're using and says that you're using the most up to date version and then closes.
