NEX 5 video recording stops (due to SD-card format?)

Hi,

I have used the video recording feature of the NEX5 and recording stops when the file size reaches 2GB. Is there a way to get around this? Can I set the camera to start on a new file (have not found this option)?

Is it due to the SD-card format (FAT,FAT32,NTFS)? What formats are supported?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

/Anders

Hi Anders, welcome to the Sony Forums

The only real workaround is to record at slightly lower resolution, which can vastly increase recording duration, albeit only upto the 2Gb limit of course.

Several options were explored in a recent forum post here; hope it's of some help.

Cheers

Thanks Mick!

I'm still a bit confused because I think the FAT32 file size limit is 4G (minus one byte). Isn't it so that the real reason is that it shall not be possible to record more than 30 minutes due to the fact that there would be additonal tax on the device. The reason for this shall be that it will be treated as a video camera as well. Found this info on other sites ...

Otherwise a good thing to add in the next firware version is the possibility to automatically continue recording in an new file?
