Regarding carrying cases and the NEX series

Hello,

I have two questions for you;

Firstly, I was wondering what the difference between NEX-5N and NEX-5R is, per picture quality?

Secondly, I am in the army, and I recently bought a NEX-5N because of its compactness, and then its practical carrying and travel traits. However, the available carrying cases for it, is inconveniently large, so I was wondering if you could recommend a carrying case for it, which is durable and compact, for an equal compact camera?

The usual places have the widest range: online that would be Amazon, with more specialised stores such as Adorama and B&H Photo (in the USA) and Jessop (UK) having the biggest dedicated online presence.

You may find something on eBay, but you'll have to know what you want and be more vigilant about quality.

You can be pretty sure Sony-branded gear will fit and be good quality, if you want zero hassle; see the link I posted above.

In any event, if you're unable to try before you buy, make sure you buy from a reputable dealer who will accept returns if you're not happy.

Cheers

Mick

Hello A.Tveten - Welcome to the Sony Forums

I will return to your question shortly as I am currently putting some information together, however in the meantime there is an extensive review of the NEX-5R posted here which should 'whet your appetite'

I will return soon to address the specific questions in your message.

Thanks,

Simon

The two cameras are superficially identical, but there are some subtle changes.

The overall aim seems to be to bridge the gap to the NEX-7; the main differences are extra physical controls and improved AF and subject detection, both which would appeal to more 'serious' users, as well as wi-fi functionality using on-board apps.

The reviews sites are often the best way to suss out 'upgrade' differences in any detail. The best comparitive one I've seen for the NEX-5R is on DPReview.com: http://www.dpreview.com/previews/sony-alpha-nex-5r

As regards cases, I have to say you can do worse than shop around for generic cases in high street camera stores. Often you'll come across something robust and small enough for your needs. Sony do produce a good range to fit the NEX-5: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/nex-5/nex-5rk/accessories#tab, including 'slim' versions, which are really good quality, but you really do have to try before you buy with cases in my experience.

Cheers

Thank you for all your replies. When it comes to accesability of "high street camera stores", they are quite small due to my current locations. Do you know any sites, which offers a good range of high quiality camera equipment?

Thank you.
