2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I have no issues with black scenes and the contrast ratio on the x8500c is
superb. The tv passes all light bleed tests as it's so good with rendering
blacks. On scenes with grey blacks however I can see some light bleed on
the sides. I think you get this with any such large LCD screen though.

Have you turned off the Advanced Contrast Enhancer in the picture settings?

Yep it's off. It's weird and very patchy.

After few updates I decided to try to amend the channel list again and it resulted again in a wated of time, because the tv is still recovering deleted channels (adult channels and so one) and removing some of the one I want.

Can anyone tell me if the damned sony is planning to fix this bloody tv or not?

@manuelsal

I have the same issue.

Sony is informed and they say they are working on this.

For some reason my tv keeps going lighter and darker every time it is a dark scene and subtitles appear. Happens a lot during Game of Thrones. Any reason for this and how can I stop it? I haven't noticed it happen any other time.

Apart from that, my tv is perfect. I brought it in Oct and only just opened and set it up last month. I use it for Sky HD and Kodi only and both run without any problem whatsoever.

Same for me. Turning off the Advanced Contrast Enhancer does not solve issue.

Issue existed in December's firmware, was solved in February's and unfortunately came back with April's firmware.

@Indy121 I have also seen this while watching a movie with subtitles. Mainly as you say when a darkish scene is playing and white subtitle text. I was using plex I think at the time. 55x8509c

Well, hooray, Tuesday is almost done, and I can sign in again, and post again, without any of that silly 'email revalidation' the site has wanted for the last week or so.

Would it be over-cynical of me to suggest that Sony toss one of these 'outages' in every time the negativity in here gets too much for them to bear?

YouView Superuser, but not an employee of YouView, nor retained by them for this purpose. It's purely me speaking

@royabrown - unless you have taken your tin foil hat off in the meantime (i dont recommend by the way), see: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/general-chat/logging-on-issues-mysony/m-p/2178732

The 'negativity' has been fairly small recently. Most posts seem to be queries rather than ranting end of the world dramatics. Which is why it's become readable again.

Probably because like me people are tired of talking to a brick wall called Sony...
