2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

It seems even though I'm fairly new to the party here , that people are getting quite rightly so annoyed and frustrated with Sony's approach to tackling issues with these TVs I for one are getting quite annoyed at the fact of having stability then for a fundamental feature of the TV; WiFi to start dropping out every few minutes, kind of defeats the object of a smart TV

Sony needs to put out something to their customers acknowledging what's being fixed and allow people to submit bug reports not just say "contact support" at every opportunity.

I think the design and build of these sets is fantastic and reflective of Sony's eye for detail but the software just lets the User experience down and indeed the support that they offer

@adyjay33Yes it will go in the loft but as a new TV costs money until I can afford a
new one I have to put up with this piece of junk...

Unless of course you want to give me the money? 🙂

Don't think so as I already have a great TV.

@Anonymous Now that we can log in again...

Generally the system is stable since the April update.

I have ONE anoying issue out-standing which relates to the response of TV to the remote commands. Sometimes on click of a button it is interpreted as multiple clicks and at other times whilst navigating the menu or apps, sometimes the tv stops responding to remote clicks. if I then wait for 20 seconds or so it starts working again.

So i decided to keep my TV in hope things eventually will get fixed. Suddenly i'm having a new problem, when i turn off my TV the picture turns off but they sound stays on for 15-30 seconds..(maybe android is living it's own life inside my TV) o.0

If the annoying reloading of the TV guide and the youtube lag build-up isn't fixed by the time PlayStation VR is released i sure hell ain't getting them or the PS4k.

Me too. But sound remains active for about 5 seconds and not 15-30.

I get a massive delay in it starting up, sometimes over 50 seconds and then only after using the remote again to try and get it going never used to be this bads, god knows what its up too but whatever it is I expect it to not turn on at all soon as this delay is getting longer as time goes by.

Nothing in my opinion seems to have been fixed since I have had it, its just as rubbish as it was when I foolisly bought it and waited in the vain hope they Sony would sort it, the loft it where it will end up.

I will warn everyone I meet not to buy Sony again as they have let me and many other down and dont seem to be bothered about it, no wonder Sony is going down the pan along with many other Japanese makes as its their attitude towards customers that is the problem along with highstreet stores that cant be bothered too.

My sound has always been active for a few seconds after I hit the power button to put the set in standby, just an annoying quirk of the set but not a big problem IMO.

Rooobb, I have factory reset that TV many times especiually after a firmware update...I think I know the procedure off by heart....

As for taking it back, maybe you have not bothered to read my posts, but then again I doubt Sony do either.

Maybe you should check first before posting?

Oh and why am I not allowed to complain about this crap TV?

I have done everything they have asked apart from put a hammer through it, although sometimes I feel like it, to get this TV working as a TV should and it just wont, hey maybe you can come and pick it up for me and return it, I dont have the time. I sure as hell cant take time off for a Sony guy to look at it and say "Im gonna do a factory reset and it will be okay" well sadly it wont, I think people are just resigned to the fact that theses TV's are lemons and badly built with poor software. Hell if you want to pay for a new replacement TV for me you can have my one! 🙂

Why don't you just send it back like you advised lots of other members  instead of moaning about it. You have plenty of time to post  on here.
