Hi geo.car.finch,

Welcome to the community.

I'm just going to try to find some answers for you. In the meantime, maybe someone else in the community might have some ideas.

Thanks,

Pascale

Hi geocar.finch,

What device are you trying to output the sound from?

Cheers,

Rose

Do you have Dolby digital+ enabled, if so change to Dolby digital.

It would help if we have more information regarding the connections and current settings as mentioned by both Gary and Rose. Especially the external device that you have connected to the TV.

I want to get sound out from my TV KD66AF9 using the SPDF output socket using the normal light fibre plug. The plug fits the socket OK but when connected with about 20 cms Toslink cable to my input box socket. There is no signal reaching my box. When I connect this TosLink to my Sky Box instead of the TV it works OK. This is how I know the Sony TV has no Toslink output.

Read your manual..

Audio output - Digital audio out - "Speakers", set to "Audio system".

Dolby Digital plus output - set it to Dolby digital, if you are using the ARC and optical.

it is quite easy to see if the tv is outputting something onto the optical out: you can see a red light in it

I agree with rooobb, and the TV does feature optical output, but you'll need to double check that the output is enabled as RottenFoxBreath mentioned. I also recommend updating the TV software to the latest version to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience due to a software glitch for example.
